Privacy policy
Last updated 5 November 2026
Your privacy is the point of the Exchange. Professionals stay anonymous until they choose otherwise, and this policy explains exactly what we hold, who sees it and when.
1. Who we are
The Consumer Talent Exchange (the “Exchange”) is run by Consumer Talent, a trading name of Staff Selection UK Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14238416) with its registered office at 2 Hawk Road, Dewsbury, WF12 7AY (“Consumer Talent”, “we”, “us”). We decide how your personal information is used on the Exchange, which makes us the controller of it. You can reach us about anything in this policy at jamie@consumer-talent.com.
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what we collect when you visit exchange.consumer-talent.com, create an account, or use the Exchange as a professional or as a hiring company, how we use it, who sees it, and the choices you have.
3. What we collect
If you're a professional
- Account details: your name, email address and a password (stored only in scrambled, hashed form).
- Your profile: level, region, sector, experience, achievements, salary and package expectations, availability and what you're looking for.
- Private details: your current employer, phone number, LinkedIn profile and the companies you've chosen to hide from.
- Your activity: introductions you accept or decline, roles you apply for, companies you show interest in, and your messages.
If you're a hiring company
- Your name, job title, work email, phone number and company details.
- Your company profile, the roles you're hiring for, the terms you sign, shortlists, introduction requests and messages.
Everyone
- Records of introductions and the dates of each interaction, which we keep as the protection record (see section 6).
- If you turn on notifications, a technical code from your browser or phone that lets us send you alerts. It doesn't identify you outside the Exchange.
- Basic technical information that any website receives, such as your IP address and browser type, used to keep the service secure and working.
4. How we use it
- To run your account and the Exchange: showing anonymous profiles to approved companies, sending introduction requests, and letting both sides chat.
- To make introductions and keep a record of them, so that introduction fees can be administered fairly.
- To send you emails and alerts about your account, introductions and messages. These are part of the service, not marketing.
- To approve companies, keep the Exchange safe, block contact details being shared before an introduction, and stop misuse.
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
If you're in the UK or EU, we rely on: performing our agreement with you (running your account and introductions); our legitimate interests (keeping the Exchange safe, keeping the protection record, improving the service); and our legal obligations. Where we ever need your consent, we'll ask for it separately.
5. Who sees your information
- Approved hiring companies see professionals' anonymous profiles only, without name, current employer or contact details.
- Your name is shared with a company only after you accept their request to chat, and only once that company has signed our terms.
- Your current employer, and any company you hide from, can never see your profile.
- Professionals see a company's name when that company asks to chat, and companies' public profiles.
- Consumer Talent (Jamie and Connor) can see accounts, introductions and messages in order to run the Exchange and support both sides.
- Service providers who run parts of the Exchange for us, under contract and only on our instructions (see section 7).
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account and profile are kept while your account is open. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
- Introduction records are kept for as long as we need them to show that an introduction took place and to administer any fee that may become due. Introductions are protected for 12 months from the latest interaction, and we may keep records longer where the law or accounting rules require it, or while a fee is in question.
- Waiting-list sign-ups are kept until you join or ask us to remove you.
7. Service providers we use
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts the Exchange's database and sign-in. Data is stored in the United States. |
| Postmark (ActiveCampaign) | Sends account emails and alerts. |
| GitHub Pages | Hosts the website itself. |
| Google Fonts | Supplies the fonts the site uses, which means your browser connects to Google. |
| Apple, Google and browser push services | Deliver notifications to your device, if you turn them on. |
Some of these providers process information in the United States. Where UK or EU data protection law applies, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the UK–US data bridge.
8. Cookies and storage
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't run analytics. The Exchange stores a small amount of information in your browser to keep you signed in, remember details you've typed while joining, and make the site work offline. You can clear this at any time in your browser settings.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to: give you a copy of your information; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; or send it to you in a portable format. To do any of these, email jamie@consumer-talent.com. We'll respond within one month, and we won't treat you differently for asking.
If you're in the UK you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Residents of US states with privacy laws, such as California, have similar rights to know, correct and delete their information, and you can use them in the same way.
You can also delete your account by asking us. Where an introduction has already been made, we keep the record of that introduction as described in section 6.
10. Security
Information travels over encrypted connections, passwords are never stored in readable form, and access rules in the database stop anyone seeing information they're not entitled to. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
11. Who can join
The Exchange is for working professionals and hiring companies. It isn't intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
12. Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and let account holders know. Questions or requests: jamie@consumer-talent.com.
